Our history
In October 2002, a three-day evangelical event was held on the University of North Dakota campus. Following it, on Sunday, October 20, 2002, an organizational meeting was held at the UND International Center. Rev. Abraham Hsueh facilitated the meeting and agreed to serve as the new group's consultant.
One by one, the attendees shared their experiences and testimonies from the event. Rev. Hsueh encouraged them and set out three steps: first, establish a Chinese Bible study group and study the Bible regularly and systematically; second, plant a church and spread the gospel among Chinese people in the region; and third, find a pastor to shepherd the congregation.
The meeting discussed a name for the group (UND-CBSG or GGF-CBSG; no final decision was made that day) and chose six coworkers for an initial six-month term, October 2002 to April 2003. The group would meet every Friday night from 7 to 9 pm, rotating among four families who offered their homes.
The first Bible study took place on November 1, 2002; the meeting had planned it for the Chen family's home. The plan was to spend two weeks on the first four chapters of Genesis, then study John, Acts and Romans.
Over the years the group has welcomed guest speakers including Dr. Clement Yeung, Dr. Chuck Kwok, Pastor Ko and Pastor Tsu-Kung Chuang, shared potlucks, celebrated Christmas and Chinese New Year, heard testimonies, and hosted a visiting short-term mission team. See the archive for past events.
